Everything you need is already within you.

This morning, when I woke up, the thought occurred to me: ‘Wow, I really love myself!’

Now, if you knew the journey I’ve been on over the past decade to more deeply feel that so simply and yet so true, feeling it deeply and authentically embodied….

Self-love always seemed like a ‘term’ to me. But not a feeling. It seemed like something that was a goal. But hard to achieve. Or some place I would ‘arrive.’ It seemed nice, like an idea, but it seemed far-fetched to understand. It seemed like other people were ‘getting it’ and I was just not. It made me feel disconnected from myself and how to feel more ‘self-love.’ And the narratives and ways I tried to find wholeness begin…

BUT.

When I started a trauma-informed breathwork and meditation practice, I realized that it was because a lot of what I thought about how to grow self-love was mental, staying in the mind and thoughts, whether it was through affirmations or some trend at the time.

What I really needed was to get into my body. From the physical body, breathing, releasing, healing, making space, and peace for more…. I started to understand self-love. It’s a feeling within the body.

Now, mantras and affirmations are useful because the foundations are in the body.

The other thing I learned was that self-love is an active process, an everyday choice, and a lifelong journey — not a destination, goal, or anything to get ‘right.’ And it’s not a one-time moment, it’s an embodied feeling you can lean into, as much as you can through healing and being in your body physically and mindfully with loving intention.
